Central Park : New York City's landmark

Central Park is probably one of the most popular locations for photoshoots in New York City.

It's not strange to see photographers on a regular basis at this place, specially in hot iconic places inside the park like:

  • Bethesda Fountain & Terrace
  • Belvedere Castle

As a local photographer, I've had the opportunity to shoot at Central Park many times!

Here are some tips for a successfull engagement session at the park:

  1. Early birds get the best shots! If you hate to wake up early, think twice. If you want to get your engagement pictures done at Central Park, you won't want a busy frame with people walking right behind you. For this matter, I always tell my couples if you're set on this location, you MUST get it done preferably before 7am in summer and before 8am in fall/winter. The park is a hot location not just for photography but on a regular basis for runners and people who love to have an early morning walk.

The secret for a picture with no distractions is to wake up early!

2. Rest well the day before. Yes, being rested if you're going to wake up super early for a photoshoot is a must as well. You don't want to look puffy for your shoot! It's important to get enough sleep the night before.

3. For women, consider getting your hair done and make up by a professional than can work with you at a very early hour. If this is not possible, get your hair done in a simple bun or straightened and don't forget to put on some lip gloss! You do not need tons of make up but definitely fresh skin and a bit of color will make those photos pop!

4. Bring your rings! A shot with your rings is always good to have for the posterity and if you have any other props and details you'd like to bring to be photographed, bring them on too!

Your rings can also be part of the show!

Top priority: Relax

Ultimately, the most important thing for beautiful pictures is to relax. This simple advice will help when you're being photographed. The calmer you are, the more natural the pictures will be!

Posing

A lot of people think they cannot pose or feel awkward doing so. This is why hiring a PROFESSIONAL is so important! As an experienced photographer, I praise myself of being able to direct, give prompts to my couples that will help them get in the moment and deliver the most natural poses. The trick is in the variety so I try to have as many options and references as possible in hand! If you have some in mind, don't be afraid of sharing them with your photographer! It will help tons and they will be more than glad to make you happy!
